Happy New Year!!

This week Sister Cruz and I had a baptism! He´s 9 years old and his brother was baptized a while ago, but for some reason he wasn´t. The mom goes to a different church, and the dad loves the church but he drinks a lot all the time and doesn´t want to marry his girlfriend who he lives with. But this kid, Renato is such a good kid, he and his brother already knew the articles of faith and a few hymns, even though they rarely went to church because they had no one to take them. Lesson learned- make sure everyone has a friend or someone to go to church with, because they will be 100% more likely to stay active! Renato lives right in front of a canal. We have to cross over the canal on a bridge that I´m sure will collapse every time I walk over it. But it hasn´t yet! Fingers crossed! This canal is rancid and I´m positive all my bug bites are from teaching there. Everyday I look to see if there´s a dead body or animal in the canal cause it sure smells like it! And the last time we were there they were burning all the shubbery that is in the canal, so it smelled even worse! Its understandable why no one would bring them to church! But these kids, Renato and his brother Rafael, are gems!

We had a man stop us in the street and say he wanted to know more about the church. Not only did he want to be baptized but he also wanted to serve a mission. Wow! There are tons of people who are SO ready to receive the message of the restoration!

A woman this week just walked up to me on the street and said i will probably get dengue cause i have so many bug bites and everyone can see them because im so white! Eh, oh well. But I´m doing everything i can to prevent them, and I still get them!

Sister Cruz has a pair of Chacos from another sister who got them from another sister, and they are completely destroyed! The soles are completely broken, but she still wears them! Hope that doesn´t happen to mine!

3. Christmas Eve we ate dinner at the stakehouse with the other elders in our zone. The food was prepared by varias Sisters in each chapel. It was so good and it was such a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas! We had a testimonay meeting before and then ate as much as we could!

Family family family!

I don´t have much time because everything was closed today due to it being Christmas Eve, and it was really difficult to find a internet cafe, so we are already late for a meeting with our zone!

My zone is Itabuna, my area is Sao Caetano. Its in the interior, but only 6 hours by bus.

On Wednesday Sister Cruz and I arrived in our area to find that we had nothing in our apartment. We knew that the area had been closed by the last missionaries who served there, but we didn´t know what to expect. So this week we bought a lot for the apartment like a washing machine, a fridge, food, and a lot of other things.

Sister Cruz is an awesome companion. We were in the MTC together, so I already knew luckily!
Opening up an area, we´ve been using the Area Book a ton. And luckily a lot of people say hi to us and tell us they were already baptized but they don´t go to our church anymore. So everyday has been an adventure and I´ve already been loving every second of it!

Tonight we have a meeting with the other Elders in our district and i´ll take ´pictures there and send them next week!

The motto of our mission this year is: smile on the face, book in hand, and fire in the bones! I love it! Three easy things to do every single day that will DEFINITELY bring results!

Love you all!
Talk to you tomorrow!!

She's off!  A little blonder, healthier, more confident and ready to conquer what comes her way.  We love you Abby!
